What tritan vision is like

Tritan color vision deficiency affects the blue-sensitive cones. It sits on a different axis from red-green deficiency, so the confusions are different too: blues can be mistaken for greens, and yellows for pinks or light greys.

Two things make tritan deficiency distinctive:

  • It's rare, and affects men and women roughly equally, unlike red-green deficiency, which is mostly in men.
  • It's often acquired rather than inherited linked to aging, some eye conditions, or medications so a new result is worth a professional check.

Because blue-yellow plates are so sensitive to screen calibration, treat a tritan screening result as a prompt to get checked, not a conclusion.
